Office surgery can be good or bad for the public. It may even be the source of turf wars (infighting) for doctors who wish to restrict the privileges of another doctor or group of doctors to perform certain procedures. The benefits of office surgery include lower cost, easier scheduling, less chance of unfamiliar hospital personnel making a mistake, friendly faces, lower chance of deadly hospital-borne infections, better tissue processing for Mohs Surgery, less need for redundant unnecessary preoperative testing, etc. The disadvantages of office surgery include the lack of an overseeing body to weed out bad doctors and surgeons, as well as those who practice in dirty or contaminated conditions.

Always ask your doctor's infection rates at his/her office and at his/her hospital. Hopefully, you will get an accurate answer.
