Chapter 4
Cancer Removal Methods and
Current Skin Cancer Treatments
Aim of the
Mohs Surgery section: After reviewing this chapter the reader should be
more familiar with Mohs Surgery and how it compares to other forms of skin
cancer surgery in the treatment of basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma
and other forms of skin cancer. The use of Mohs Surgery in combination and
followed by plastic surgery and reconstructive surgery are clearly explained.
Methods to further determine the nature and type of skin cancer to be treated
by Mohs Surgery are discussed in-depth. For example, infiltrative and multicentric
basal cell carcinomas or poorly differentiated and well-differentiated squamous
cell carcinoma. The use of Mohs Surgery to treat unusual types of skin cancers
including keratoacanthomas in critical areas or non-colored lentigo maligna
melanoma are also described.
